Given his success in front of goal this season, for almost the entire campaign transfer talk has rumbled on about Alfredo Morelos.
And in the last few days, it seems to have centered mostly around French giants Marseille.
Last week there was talk of the French side’s interest from Spain [originally Marca]. In France, another report claimed the club is continuing to monitor the Colombian’s progress [Footmercato].
Now there’s real talk of the French side launching an impressive £16m bid for Scotland’s top scorer [Daily Mail]. But is there another significant transfer which has influenced the interest?

There’s no doubt Alfredo Morelos is attracting interest on merit. He’s only 22 and scoring for fun in Scotland. Alfredo’s a handful for defenders and unarguably one of the most talented players in this country.
But after Moussa Dembele’s successful transfer to Lyon, the French league will be much more aware of the talent Scotland can often harbour.

Dembele has since gone on to score 21 goals and lay on another six this season. He’s reportedly attracting Premier League interest from Manchester United, Spurs and Lyon. Some reports claim to the tune of £43m [Express].
Have Marseille considered Dembele’s success and resale value in the case of Morelos? It may well be why Rangers value the former Helsinki man at the same price as the former Celtic striker.

Dembele’s potential move to the Premier League could also act as inspiration for Morelos.
The Rangers striker claims it’s his dream to play in England [Daily Record] and should he be successful, Marseille could act as a stepping stone to achieving it.
That’s if the French outfit can cough up Rangers’ asking price for the player.
