Speculation over French giants Marseille plotting a swoop for Alfredo Morelos continues to grow in France.

The talented Colombian striker is reportedly on the Ligue 1 side’s shortlist, with a fresh Foot Mercato report claiming the club continue to watch Morelos.

They even claim that the player will cost the French outfit €18m. It’s in the same ballpark as the figure attributed to Morelos by Gers chief Stewart Robertson.

But Marseille have a bit of a striking crisis with the future of Mario Balotelli up in the air.

Speculation surrounding the future of Morelos has been rife all season, with his 29 Rangers goals reportedly also attracting interest from Germany [Sky Sports] and England [Daily Express].

The opportunity to move to one of Europe’s “top five leagues”, which Ligue 1 currently is, could be an intriguing prospect for a player with heady ambitions at the top of the game.

For Rangers, should Marseille be willing to match the club’s asking price it could be a mutually beneficial move.

As big a fan favourite as Morelos is, he is regularly targeted by opposition players. His reaction and petulance have put the club under great pressure this season.

Whilst his goals would need to be replaced, a move could suit both parties. But it will likely all come down to the finances.
