Davide Ancelotti has emerged as the favourite to become the next Rangers manager.

The young coach, 35, is the son of legendary Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti, who he has worked under as an assistant at Napoli, Bayern, Everton and finally Real Madrid.

Ancelotti Snr admitted Davide is in talks with a ‘European’ club whilst being unveiled as the new manager of Brazil.

Throw Ancelotti Jnr’s emotional goodbye to Real Madrid into the mix, and suddenly those links to Rangers take on a whole new complexion.

Davide Ancelotti Rangers’ ‘first choice’ as new manager

The latest reports in Scotland have suggested that Rangers will hold talks with Ancelotti this week with the manager said to be keen on the switch to Ibrox.

But what about the view from Spain?

Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has been writing for BBC Sport about the interest and claims Davide Ancelotti is a wanted man.

The Gers face competition from three clubs for the Italian, with Ancelotti ‘first choice’ at Rangers and a deal there to be done.

It’s also claimed that delays to the US takeover of Rangers, facilitated by 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh, is holding up the move.

Balague believes Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart, new sporting director Kevin Thelwell and leading figures from the US consortium are heading the talks.

Guillem Balague moves to clarify Luka Modric to Rangers rumour

Guillem Balague has moved to clarify rumours surrounding a potential Rangers swoop for departing Real Madrid legend Luka Modric.

Modric, 39, waved goodbye alongside the Ancelottis in emotional scenes as the curtain came down on the end of an era at the Bernabeu.

With the BBC Sport report titled ‘Ancelotti positive after Rangers meeting – but could Modric follow?’, it naturally got Rangers fans talking.

In the centre of the article Balague also claims that the Real Madrid team, including the exiting Modric, are ‘aware’ of Ancelotti’s situation with Rangers.

Whilst some Rangers fans risked getting a little carried away, Balague has now moved to clear up the confusion.

Taking to social media platform X, Balague said: “On Luka Modric and Rangers.

”Modric IS NOT GOING TO RANGERS, but you knew that, right?

”The story I told about Modric is in the BBC Sport in relation to Davide Ancelotti and Rangers. Players he knows have asked him to take them to Rangers.

“And when Modric was asked about it, he did not say no, or yes, or committed to it. It was a way to explaining the kind of conversations Davide can have, as he has access to players that hugely respect him.

”But MODRIC IS NOT GOING TO RANGERS.

“It will not stop people assuming that he is about to sign for Rangers.”
