Giovanni van Bronckhorst assembled a highly qualified and respected coaching staff when he was at Rangers, however, individuals like Dave Vos just didn’t work out.
As a highly respected academy coach and manager in Ajax’s youth set up, he seemed liked the perfect choice to help develop players of our own as Gio’s number two.
His time in Glasgow was short though and, after being removed from his duties at Rangers, Dave Vos has a new role as interim assistant manager to Hedwiges Maduro following Maurice Steijn’s departure, as revealed by Ajax.

Rangers exit sees Dave Vos earn Ajax promotion
The 40-year old wasn’t out of work long after leaving the Light Blues and soon found a job back in Amsterdam as the head coach of the academy – a respected position given the stature of their youth set up.
Announcing the new team on their website, Ajax explained what former Rangers coach Dave Vos’s new position would be:
“Hedwiges Maduro led the group of Ajax 1 players during the training session at sports complex De Toekomst.
“For the coming period, the 38-year-old succeeds Maurice Steijn, who left recently.
“Due to Steijn’s departure and Maduro’s new role, Dave Vos will temporarily take on the role of assistant coach of the first team.
“Yuri Rose will lead the Ajax U23 team during the match against Roda JC on Friday.”

There are some coaches who seem better suited to youth coaching and development rather than senior football.
As head of Rangers academy, Dave Vos would be the perfect option but it just didn’t work out as Gio’s assistant.
Getting into first-team football at any level can be hard but Vos has built up a solid coaching CV and reputation, if he impresses in the short-term, there could well be a permanent post in the future.
Knowing the best prospects at the club will also stand him and Maduro in good stead and with Ajax sitting a lowly 17th in the Eredivisie table, they might just get a chance.
After all, they couldn’t do much worse.
