Former Rangers coach Dave Vos has landed a top job in the Ajax youth set-up as the sacking of Alfred Schreuder sets off a series of dominos within the club.

The Dutch champions have sacked Alfred Schreuder after a disappointing campaign where the former Club Brugge boss has overseen a downturn in domestic form.

In a tight Eredivisie, Ajax has struggled to bounce back from the Erik ten Hag-led exodus in the summer and find themselves 3rd in the Dutch top flight behind Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar.

PSV Eindhoven are 4th and FC Twente 5th with only six points separating the top five in what is proving a competitive division this season.

Ajax – who beat Rangers twice in the Champions League group stages this season – clearly felt a change was needed to get this season over the line and the axe has fallen on Alfred Schreuder.

Dave Vos lands Ajax role

As a result, former Jong Ajax coach Johnny Heitinga has taken the reins with the top team and the ex-Rangers coach has returned to take charge of the club’s second string.

Dave Vos – who left the management job at Jong Ajax to become Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s assistant – only left Ajax at the end of 2021 and returns to the club after 15 months away.

This comes after Vos was sacked from his role at Rangers alongside Van Bronckhorst and the rest of his backroom staff, with the axe swinging after the Ibrox side fell nine points behind Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Premiership.

“I am a real Ajax player and I owe a lot to the club”, Dave Vos told official Ajax media.

“That’s why I like to give something back now that Ajax is calling on me again.

“I know the group of players well from my previous period at the club and I am very excited to help the players in their final steps towards the highest level.”

Interestingly, as ex-Rangers coach Dave Vos returns to Ajax, Alfred Schreuder is being ruled out of the Premier League running with Leeds United.

But the same can’t be said for former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard.
