The Mirror have reported that former Rangers and Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is open to becoming the new manager of Leeds United.

Former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard open to Leeds United move

The report has claimed that Leeds could make a move to bring in Liverpool legend Gerrard as their new manager.

The Premier League club would also hire Gary McAllister along with Gerrard as his assistant.

The report has suggested that both Gerrard and McAllister would be keen on going to Leeds.

The duo were sacked by Aston Villa earlier this season, and they are ‘desperate to prove themselves in the Premier League’, according to the report.

Gerrard and McAllister won the Scottish Premiership title with Rangers.

U-turn over Gerrard

Now, it seems that Leeds could be changing their stance over Gerrard.

Earlier in the week, Italian news outlet TMW reported that the former England international midfielder was among the candidates that Leeds were looking at after sacking Jesse Marsch.

Marsch was relieved of his duties at Elland Road after a run of poor results.

Leeds are in serious danger of getting relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.

However, The Daily Star subsequently reported that Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani did not have the 42-year-old on his shortlist.

However, this latest report in The Mirror seems to suggest that the West Yorkshire club are making a U-turn over the former Liverpool star.

Perhaps it is because Leeds are being rejected by managers left, right and centre.

According to The Mirror, Carlos Corberan signed a new contract with West Bromwich Albion amid interest from Leeds, Andoni Iraola wants to stay Rayo Vallecano and Arne Slot does not want to leave Feyenoord in the middle of the season.

Gerrard was in charge of Rangers from the summer of 2018 until November 2021 when he decided to leave for Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The Englishman led the Gers to the Scottish Premiership title in 2020-21 and to the the Scottish League Cup final in 2019-20.

Gerrard was sacked by Villa in October 2022.
