Ex-Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has taken former England international Jesse Lingard on trial at Al Ettifaq following the collapse of his trial at West Ham.

The 30-year-old attacker remains without a club following his release from Nottingham Forest at the end of last season.

West Ham manager David Moyes had claimed he was giving Jesse Lingard the “opportunity” to prove his fitness but now the winger is headed to Al Ettifaq for a month.

Former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is the man in charge of the Saudi Pro League side and has already added the likes of Jordan Henderson, Moussa Dembele and Georginio Wijnaldum to his squad.

Jesse Lingard could be the latest name set to join Al Ettifaq with the Saudi club now set to run the rule over the former England star.

Coming through at Manchester United, the attacker made over 230 appearances for the Red Devils across 11 years at Old Trafford.

Between 2016 and 2021 Jesse Lingard was in and out of the England team and even managed six goals across his 32 appearances for the team.

Rangers have also been mentioned as potential Jesse Lingard suitors throughout the attacker’s career with the Gers linked to a loan move heading into the 2021 January window.

As things would transpire, the attacking midfielder moved to West Ham and after the Premier League side gave the attacker the chance to prove his fitness, there was hope he could resurrect his form from the subsequent loan stint.

But now Jesse Lingard is heading to Al Ettifaq on a one-month training permit as he looks to convince Steven Gerrard to stump up and sign him.

Interestingly there were murmurs of Rangers interest in the summer as the Ibrox club looked to replace the influence of the outgoing Ryan Kent.

Whilst there were no official links between Rangers and the player, leading club insider and media partner Four Lads Had a Dream asked the club about rumours surrounding the player.

Speaking as the transfer window rolled to a close, the suggestion is those Rangers links to Jesse Lingard were laughed out of Ibrox.
