The German international had claimed the team’s defending “absolutely stinks” after being humbled 4-2 by Borussia Monchengladbach in late January.

Portuguse left-back Raphael Guerreiro then swallowed his pride by agreeing with the attacker and urging his team to go for Europa League glory in a message to Rangers.

And both players were the difference makers on a potentially tricky trip to the German capital as Dortmund downed Union Berlin 3-0 to keep a clean sheet and find form before the Rangers clash.

Borussia Dortmund thrash Union Berlin ahead of Rangers clash

Racing into a 2-0 lead, German international star Marco Reus had netted twice within 25 minutes to set the tone for the rest of the match.

Portuguese international Raphael Guerreiro would then round off the scoring in the 71st minute as the German side bounced back from a thrashing against Bayer Leverkusen last weekend.

The result also takes advantage of Bayern Munich’s surprise 4-2 defeat to newly-promoted Bochum to close the gap to six points at the top of the Bundesliga.

However, if Rangers fans are looking for some positives head of the Europa League clash with Dortmund, the absence of Erling Haaland from the squad could mean the Norwegian misses the German leg of the clash.

The powerhouse striker is still out with a muscle problem and it remains to be seen if the 21-year-old will be back in time for the visit of the Ibrox side this coming Thursday.

Whatever the case, Dortmund have also taken to Twitter to send Rangers a message ahead of the clash in Germany next week.

The clash with Borussia Dortmund promises to be a tantalising one and Rangers will be hoping to lay down a marker of their own in the Westfalenstadion next week.

Speaking of the Bundesliga, one of the Rangers’ leading partners have officially announced a new deal with a German giant.
