Does annual report put pressure on Rangers to sell Alfredo Morelos?

With the release of Rangers’ annual report, there’s been much hysteria about the £11.3m loss accrued in the last financial year.

Dave King’s been clear throughout his rein at Ibrox [Evening Times] about the need for considerable investment – £50m to be exact – and you highly doubt the club sanctioned the reported £7.5m fee for Ryan Kent with impending doom on the horizon.

But given the position Rangers want to find themselves in as a footballing business (buy small, sell big) could the figures force our hand when it comes to Alfredo Morelos?

There is no doubt that Morelos will prove to be the first example of Rangers implementing that wider strategy which has served Celtic so well in recent seasons.

Whilst the club has not managed to recoup enough off of their player investments since climbing the divisions, Morelos will surely see us get a slice of those Premier League billions.

Should Morelos move on, it’s an example the club will be looking to replicate and something supporters must get used to.

But with everything on the line this season, and with Morelos firing, the idea that he could jump ship to the tune of £20m+ in January is painful but understood by most fans.

Does the pressure of this financial report come into the club’s thinking when it comes to January dealings? Obviously. This is what Rangers have been building towards.

But does it influence our ability to stave off any interest in Morelos until the summer?

As Aston Villa’s Dean Smith said when asked about reported interest in the Colombian, “watch this space” [Scottish Sun].
