As Rangers manager Steven Gerrard took today’s press conference, he spoke pretty honestly about the club’s transfer plans for next season.
He also spoke pretty honestly about those at the club who he feels aren’t cutting the mustard at Ibrox.
The Rangers manager looked in no mood to mess around as he prepares for the challenge of Motherwell this weekend. But was he sending a message to one player in particular with his direct comments?
When asked if there are players at the club playing for their future, Gerrard simply replies “100%”.
“You find out a lot about players over the course of a season,” said Gerrard. “You find out a lot about players when things are going well, when setbacks happen, when individuals drop form or are not at their best.
“Some have thrived, some have fell short”
“But you’re always looking to see if they can cope with the Rangers experience. Some have thrived in it. Some have been with me all the way through the good or the bad and I’ve always had a good feeling that they want to be a part of this moving forward.
“Some have fell short, and at the right time when it’s possible they’ll be moved on.”
The Gers gaffer was not messing around. But who exactly was he speaking about? Well, probably a few players.
But Gerrard has been more visibly frustrated with Borna Barisic recently. It was only last week Gerrard fumed at the player’s injury on international duty with Croatia. Of course, this can mean very little.
Gerrard said the player should’ve been back at Ibrox sooner than he actually arrived. This is no confirmation of anything, but Steven Gerrard has looked increasingly frustrated at the player.
Only signed in the summer, is Barisic one of the players Gerrard was taking aim at in his press conference?
