Rangers could make an approach to hire Hearts manager Derek McInnes should Danny Rohl leave for RB Salzburg.
McInnes is one among four names on the shortlist, as the Light Blues want to bring in Rohl’s replacement quickly.
Rangers are demanding compensation from Salzburg as there is no release clause in the German’s contract at Ibrox.
What would your concerns be about Derek McInnes replacing Danny Rohl?
Hearts want high six figures for Derek McInnes
Hearts are expected to demand a compensation fee in the high six figures from Rangers if they are to let McInnes leave, according to Hearts Standard.
Thus far, the Tynecastle outfit have not received an approach, but they are expecting that to happen in the coming days.
Despite McInnes joining them last summer on a four-year contract, they are resigned to losing him after one year in charge.
Which of these three managers would you prefer at Rangers?
We believe Derek McInnes is the right man for the job…
The succession planning is already underway, with the club working with Jamestown Analytics to cover all possible scenarios at first-team level.
Rangers’ move for McInnes would undoubtedly hinge on Rohl agreeing a deal with RB Salzburg, provided they can pay the compensation for him.
The Light Blues are in a bigger rush than Hearts as their pre-season begins next week.

What Rangers fans can expect from McInnes
For starters, McInnes managed to get the best out of Lawrence Shankland, so he could deploy a system that maximises the Scottish striker’s potential.
It will be good news for Youssef Chermiti as well, as the 54-year-old has worked with a two-striker formation.
Usually, McInnes’ teams have been the underdogs so they have not been able to express themselves quite like how Rangers and Celtic have.
Should Lawrence Shankland be named the Rangers captain?
Colin Hendry believes he deserves the armband right away…
However, that could change should he move to Ibrox as he would bring in much needed pragmatism and organisation while also giving the players to express themselves in the final third.
Rangers will improve in terms of their offensive and defensive set pieces and they are likely to build a good dressing-room atmosphere under McInnes.
Paying six figures in compensation is actually a steal as the Scotsman could be an appointment made for the longer term.
It remains to be seen what sort of transfer targets he has in mind.
