Rangers are entitled to compensation should Danny Rohl leave for RB Salzburg in the coming days.

Rohl does not have a release clause in his contract at Ibrox, which means the two clubs need to agree on a fee before he can be let go.

Thus far, an agreement has not been reached between the two clubs, but talks are ongoing.

Rangers could demand £6m to part ways with Danny Rohl

Rangers hold the upper hand in negotiations and could demand up to £6m from Salzburg for the German, TEAMtalk has reported.

The Red Bull-owned club have already made one attempt, and Jurgen Klopp, their Head of Global Soccer, has now made another one in an attempt to convince Rohl to leave.

The former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager is a fan of the Gers boss and is one of the driving forces in this entire saga.

While Klopp’s interest has been flattering for Rohl, he has not yet indicated to Rangers that he wants to leave.

The 37-year-old appreciates the backing from Andrew Cavenagh and the owners after a dismal end to the 2025/26 season.

Despite finishing third, the hierarchy opted to stick with him and have already backed him in the transfer window this summer with the signing of Lawrence Shankland from Hearts.

What Four Lads Had a Dream is saying about Rohl’s future at Ibrox

Steven Clifford, who runs the Four Lads Had a Dream blog, is knowledgeable about what is happening behind the scenes at Rangers.

He claims that there are some quarters who believe that Steven Gerrard’s return is inevitable, and Rohl was never going to be at Ibrox for the long term.

Clifford also believes that it is interesting that the club are willing to negotiate with Salzburg, as they could have chosen not to, as there is nothing from Rohl that indicates he is keen on leaving.

He is also not ruling out the possibility that the board could have decided to wait instead of sacking him, as that would have meant they would need to pay Rohl to leave, but they can now pocket a few million from his exit.

In the Rangers Review, he wrote: “The rumours in certain circles surrounding Steven Gerrard’s return have never been allowed to fade. It is almost like an itch Rangers just have to scratch.

“In some quarters it has been widely accepted that it is almost inevitable and, depending on who you speak to, it did not matter what Rohl did, he would always be a short-term appointment.

“It is only a few weeks since Andrew Cavenagh very publicly backed his head coach, stating the board felt he was ‘best placed’ to make the difference and lead Rangers forward. However, it is interesting that Rangers are negotiating with RB Salzburg because they could simply have rejected the approach.

“More interesting still is the suggestion that the board were aware of interest in Rohl and expected offers to arrive. Instead of sacking him and paying compensation, they may have waited, potentially avoiding a costly decision and even positioning themselves to receive a fee.”
