BT Sport host and Scottish football broadcaster Darrell Currie has taken aim at Tom English for comments the BBC Scotland sportswriter made about Rangers’ Ryan Jack.

English had previously criticised Ryan Jack for showing emotion at the end of the Betfred Cup Final [BBC Sportsound 09/19/19] defeat to Celtic, praising rival captain Scott Brown’s perceived machoism in the process.

Currie – like plenty of others – responded to English’s comments on Twitter and highlighted the dated nature of his argument.

Darrell Currie isn’t the only one to leap to the defence of the Rangers midfielder either.

Jack’s former Aberdeen teammate Jamie Langfield spoke out against English’s comments [Twitter], whilst the likes of Johnny MacFarlane of the Daily Record have echoed Currie’s comments.

English himself responded to the Scottish Sun article [Twitter] after he signposted it as starting the debate over his comments.

Clearly feeling the pressure of the wider political implications of what he said, English is quite correctly coming under fire.

It’s not the first time the BBC Scotland chief sportswriter has been caught out for comments made about Rangers either.

A complaint from the club about English’s comments on the potential crush involving Rangers fans at Rugby Park at the start of the season was upheld by the broadcaster.

Given the obtuse nature and unprofessionalism of his coverage involving Rangers and their players, if his position at the BBC close to becoming untenable?
