BBC Scotland’s chief sportswriter Tom English has taken a pop at Rangers star Ryan Jack for showing his emotions at the end of the Betfred Cup Final.

Bitterly disappointed and emotional, Jack shed a tear as the final whistle went and Rangers failed to get that first trophy under Steven Gerrard.

But according to Tom English, Ryan Jack made a mistake by letting his emotions get the better of him.

“At full-time… Ryan Jack has played a really top class game for me and I think he’s a superb player,” said English [BBC Sportsound 09/19/19].

“But he breaks down in tears and goes into the embrace of his manager. Now he’s one of your go-to guys, and he’s in tears on the pitch.

“If Celtic had lost that match yesterday, would Scott Brown have dissolved into tears in Neil Lennon’s arms? I don’t think so. So the optics of that were not good.”

Jack was visibly upset as Rangers trudged off a sodden Hampden despite dominating the match against Celtic.

Rangers just couldn’t force the ball over the line and fell to a 1-0 defeat courtesy of an offside goal for Celtic.

Ryan Jack’s emotions clearly got the better of himself, but was he right to show them?
