One journalist is claiming that Rangers’ “confidence is low” in signing Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers – with Feyenoord’s Brazilian hitman Danilo emerging as an alternative.
The Ibrox side have reportedly been locked in discussions over a move for Nigerian international striker Dessers, 28, who has just suffered relegation from Serie A with the Italian side.
Reports have claimed Rangers want to pay around £5m for Cyriel Dessers, but now journalist Pranav Shahaney is claiming that the Cremonese’s valuation means “confidence is low” for getting a deal over the line.
There has been mixed reporting on the pursuit of Cyriel Dessers, which has been rumbling for the entire month, as Rangers look to bolster their frontline ahead of next season.
The claims from Shahaney – who has worked extensively for Breaking Media Limited – come amid claims from Italy and Calcio Mercato that the Rangers move for Cyriel Dessers had collapsed.
Whilst these made headlines across the country, they were eventually rebuffed back in Scotland with the suggestion the deal is very much alive made in the Daily Record.

Feyenoord’s Danilo ‘is Rangers Cyriel Dessers alternative’
Until Cyriel Dessers is hoisting the Rangers scarf above his head, doubts will remain regarding a move, but the Ibrox club reportedly have a contingency plan in Feyenoord striker Danilo Pereira da Silva.
According to Mail Online, Rangers have a back-up list of striker options should the deal not be concluded with Brazilian forward Danilo representing a very interesting link indeed.
The 24-year-old striker is a Brazilian youth international and only signed a four-year contract with Feyenoord last summer, moving after his contract expired with Ajax.
There’s no suggestion of how much Rangers would need to pay to bring Danilo to Ibrox, but the striker’s record at Feyenoord last season was decent if not barnstorming.

The striker netted 10 goals as Feyenoord lifted the Eredivisie title whilst he netted another two goals apiece in the Europa League and KNVB Cup.
If anything, the links show that Rangers do have alternatives in mind if the club’s main transfer deals don’t come to fruition with Cyriel Dessers the clear first choice option in Michael Beale’s Ibrox rebuild.
