It’s clear Rangers need greater quality at left back, and in Everton legend Leighton Baines, the Gers could find a consistent, reliable solution.
Whilst the 30 times capped former England international isn’t quite at the peak of his powers, he’d be an industrious, capable signing.
What’s more, he’d be available on a free with his contract at Goodison Park set to expire at the end of the season.
The 34-year-old left back is yet to sign a new deal with Everton, but reports suggest he is set to be offered one. Baines has been at Everton for 12 years since joining the club from Wigan.
There’s a chance the player may be interested in taking up a new challenge before hanging up his boots. A former international teammate of Steven Gerrard’s, he could be convinced there’s a suitable one in Glasgow.
It could be Leighton Baines last chance to add to his solitary winner’s medal, which he earned when Everton won the FA Cup in 2009.
Rangers could really gain something from the player’s experience. Baines has played at a very high level for Everton for years and the club would be getting a top class left-back for a knockdown price.
