The contract of England international and Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck is set to expire this summer – and it might have peaked Rangers manager Steven Gerrard’s interest.
The notion Rangers could sign the former Manchester United youth player may sound ludicrous. But ludicrous pretty much sums up the goings on at Ibrox over the last few years.

If you’d told any Rangers fans 18 months ago that we’d be sitting with Steven Gerrard as manager and Jermain Defoe as a striker, you’d have laughed them out the pub.
Now, it’s because we have this duo that Rangers could well entice such a big name to the club.

Could Rangers pull in a favour?

Jermain Defoe is a good friend of Welbeck’s and they share the same agent. Naturally, Welbeck is also well acquainted with former England captain Steven Gerrard.
Rangers would inevitably have to stump up for Welbeck’s wages, but there’s little doubt over his ability. Particularly at this level.
That said, Welbeck has struggled with injuries throughout his career and currently remains out with an ankle injury.
Even if a move was feasible, would the Gers gaffer let his budget be swallowed on a player who couldeasily  be ruled out for a season?
On the other side of that, coming to a club the size of Rangers as a marquee signing/player Welbeck could resurrect his career. Whilst this is only just speculation, any such move would be dependent on finance.

Alfredo Morelos has been linked with the likes of Borussia Dortmund [
Sky Sports] and Eintracht Frankfurt [Daily Express]. Rangers Managing Director suggested Rangers are looking at close to £20m for the player.
Should the club get it, would Danny Welbeck be a suitable replacement?
