Scotland U21 international Connor Barron has been one of the bright sparks of Rangers’ start to the season.
The summer signing from Aberdeen has been given his opportunity at Ibrox and taken it with both hands, impressing supporters with his energetic and progressive midfield displays.
Such has been the solid form of Connor Barron, reports earlier in the month had suggested Scotland manager Steve Clarke had been admiring from afar.
Now, Barron has found out his Scotland fate with only one member of the Rangers squad receiving the nod ahead of the upcoming Nation’s League clashes with Poland (H) and Portugal (A).

Connor Barron learns Scotland fate
Connor Barron had been asked about a potential Scotland call-up heading into the weekend’s clash with Ross County.
The young Rangers midfielder has been a stand-out performer so far this season and there was a sentiment heading into the squad’s announcement that a call-up was merited.
When quizzed on reports of a call from Steve Clarke, Barron said he’d ‘obviously be buzzing’ to get the nod but that any call-up is ‘outwith his hands’.
And so that has proven to be the case as Connor Barron officially misses out on a place in Steve Clarke’s competitive 24-man Scotland squad.
The likes of Billy Gilmour, John McGinn, Scott McTominay and Kenny McLean are in front of Barron in the middle of the pitch for Scotland.
But with Celtic captain Callum McGregor retiring from international football and Ryan Jack currently unattached to any club the youngster might’ve had hopes of a call.
There is however a place in the squad for one Rangers star who might well still be reeling from a summer snub at Euro 2024.
Good week for Scotland defender John Souttar
It’s a good week for Rangers centre-back John Souttar if reports are to be believed.
It’s been claimed this week that Rangers are eyeing a contract extension for Souttar after his bright start to the new season.
One of the first names on Philippe Clement’s teamsheet, Souttar has grown into the Ibrox centre-back role and has also received some good news on the Scotland front.
John Souttar has been recalled to the Scotland squad after manager Steve Clarke cut the defender from the nation’s Euro 2024 set-up in the summer.
Whilst Souttar was coming back from an end-of-season injury, the call did eventually go on to backfire.
This was after Ryan Porteous’s rash red card against Germany left the nation on the end of a humbling and without one of their defensive options for the final two group games.
