Danny Rohl will be thinking about who the Rangers captain will be for the 2026/27 season, with James Tavernier set to leave.

Managers in the past have had different things to worry about, but the decision of who is to be named the captain is not something they have had to concern themselves with.

However, that is not the case for Rohl, who has some candidates to choose from to be the next Rangers skipper.

Chris Jack believes a new captain could be signed by Rangers

Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack believes that a new player could be signed by the club in the summer, who will then be named captain by Rohl.

That is because Jack claims that there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the futures of a lot of first-team regulars.

Raskin could leave Rangers in the summer, and while Dujon Sterling poses as a good option, he is unlikely to be a regular starter.

Jack also does not see Jack Butland being named the permanent captain.

He told the Rangers Review’s YouTube channel: “I wouldn’t be surprised if Danny Rohl signs someone and makes him the new Rangers captain.

“When you look at the starting eleven for Falkirk, there are not too many nailed down to be at the club for your first game for next season, are there?

“You mention Butland. I think there’s a bit of doubt there. Dujon Sterling, potentially. But if you sign a new right-back, he would replace Dujon as the first choice. Rommens, I like the shout of.”

Is Rommens ready to be named the captain?

Tuur Rommens joined in January and has already become one of the first names on the team sheet.

He was someone who Rohl wanted personally and spoke highly about his impact in the dressing room.

At 23, one might argue that he is on the younger side, but if he is able to command the respect of his teammates and pass on instructions from the manager, he is ready to be made the captain.

The Rangers manager could alternatively sign a new captain and then put Rommens as part of a four or five-man leadership group.

Right now, Rohl’s primary focus will be to win the title and once that is done, he can focus on next season.
