Rangers fans might’ve been getting excited about the prospect of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard locking horns at Ibrox this season, but it may well have been short-lived.
Rangers announced a friendly match with Derby County for the end of July which would see the former England teammates face off as managers.
But now, English manager Harry Redknapp thinks Lampard is bound for the vacant Chelsea job. And he should know – ‘Arry is Frank’s uncle.

The job of Chelsea manager has proven to be a bit of a poisoned chalice in recent years.
Even for Maurizio Sarri, who finished third behind footballing titans Man City and Liverpool in the Premier League and won the Europa League, relations were frosty.
Frank Lampard, Chelsea’s all-time highest goalscorer, could provide real stability and leadership at a club going through a minor transition.
It’s a difficult job. The club has gone through numerous staffing turnovers. There’s a transfer ban in place. It’s a bit of a risk for Lampard.
But such is his affinity for Stamford Bridge, the legendary midfielder would almost certainly find it difficult to turn them down.
Even if the prospect of a glamour friendly for his current side at Ibrox is in the pipeline!

And should Lampard take the Chelsea job on, Rangers fans need not worry about Steven Gerrard and Liverpool.
At least not yet…
