Rangers to face Derby County in final pre-season friendly

Rangers are to face Derby County in the Gers’ final pre-season friendly before the Scottish Premiership campaign gets underway, the club have confirmed.
Frank Lampard’s side will travel to Ibrox on July 28th, one week before the league kicks off, with former Ger Martyn Waghorn set to return to his old stomping ground.

The Gers already have games scheduled at Ibrox against Oxford United, Marseille and Blackburn Rovers in the weeks prior to the Derby clash – as well as facing Europa League qualifiers at the same time.
Plymouth manager Ryan Lowe had claimed talks were ongoing over bringing a Gers side to Home Park before the season gets started but that seems unlikely now.

Gerrard’s squad will have plenty of opportunities to get game-time before the league season gets underway with the Light Blues having a hectic schedule right up until the league opener.
Before they get to the first of those games though, Rangers will travel to Portugal for a warm-weather training camp as Gerrard puts them through their paces.

Of course, should Frank Lampard remain as Derby manager it will give him a chance to renew his rivalry with Gerrard from their playing days as the pair go head-to-head as managers for the first time.
