Bayern Munich have dropped Rangers-linked attacking midfielder Malik Tillman for their tour of Japan with the USA international set to leave the club “this week”.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Ibrox but despite impressing in Glasgow, was not part of the Bayern Munich squad which has made the trip out to the Far East.

According to leading German journalist Kerry Hau, who works for broadcaster SPORT 1, the absence of Malik Tillman comes with the player set to leave Bayern “this week”.

The journalist claims that the player’s destination is not yet defined, with interest from three clubs in the German Bundesliga and two unnamed clubs interested from abroad.

Translated into English, Kerry Hau’s tweet reads:

“Thomas Tuchel is taking the offensive talents Arijon Ibrahimovic and Gabriel Vidovic with him to FC Bayern’s Asia tour. Malik Tillman stays in Munich. His move is set to take place this week – he has three options in the Bundesliga and two abroad.”

Rangers-linked Malik Tillman set to leave Bayern

In Germany, Malik Tillman has previously been linked to the likes of VfB Stuttgart and Eintracht Frankfurt, whilst Brighton and Brentford have been linked from the Premier League.

Rangers had a much-publicised £5m option-to-buy at the end of Malik Tillman’s loan transfer and for all intents and purposes, the club appeared very interested in securing a deal.

But amid all that high-profile interest from elsewhere, Rangers’ option with Bayern was cut short and the Bundesliga club paid the Gers off £1m in order to cancel the arrangement.

The Ibrox side are also said to have a 10% sell-on clause included in the deal as part of the arrangement, which means the club could bank a pretty penny dependent on where Malik Tillman moves this week.

Rangers were also said to retain a loan interest in the player but given the club is preparing to fork out a reported £6m to sign Brazilian striker Danilo from Feyenoord, something tells us a return for Malik Tillman is a no-go.

Bayern loanee Malik Tillman made 43 appearances for Rangers last season, scoring 12 goals, laying on five assists and picking up the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award.
