Bodo/Glimt weakness that could see Knutsen be Gers hit

Kjetil Knutsen always seemed like one of those managers who would be linked with other jobs but never the Rangers one.

With a report in The Sun claiming that the Norwegian is a serious contender, his achievements in his homeland can’t be questioned but there is one issue.

Almost none of Kjetil Knutsen’s star men at Bodo/Glimt have gone on to success anywhere else so, is it the quality of the league or the players themselves?

How could Kjetil Knutsen be a success at Rangers

Players like Erik Botheim, Ola Solbakken and Nikita Haikin have all tried, and failed, to various degrees to make a career for themselves abroad.

Victor Boniface is maybe the only one to look like he could kick on to the next level from the 2021 side that battered Celtic 5-1 over two legs and Jose Mourinho’s Roma 6-1.

There is a way to see this as a positive.

These players performed so well as a unit at Bodo/Glimt because of Kjetil Knutsen and Rangers could do with someone who has his set of skills.

He galvanised them, inspired them to achieve above their individual potential and dragged a group of players to silverware who otherwise wouldn’t have reached those heights.

Whether or not Kjetil Knutsen would be able to get a tune out of Rangers summer recruits Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers like he did with Erik Botheim and Ola Solbakken we will have to wait and see.

Rumoured to have been a possible option to replace Michael Beale, the Ibrox hotseat isn’t the only job that Knutsen has been linked with.

His style of play and success on a budget has made him an attractive option for teams looking to turn around their fortunes.

If Kjetil Knutsen lands the Rangers job, he wouldn’t just need to get the team to work for each other, he’d need to work miracles.
