Barry Ferguson told his Rangers flops the ‘worst thing’ he could have said to them after Hibs embarrassment

Barry Ferguson was right to say that Hibs wanted to win more than Rangers on Saturday.

That’s according to former Rangers full-back Richard Foster, who believes that is the worst thing the Rangers first-team could have heard after the awful 2-0 defeat at Ibrox.

Rangers lost for the fifth game in a row at home and staggeringly, conceded two goals in each of their last six league games for the first time in 131 years.

Ferguson delivered a ferocious post-match interview as he admitted the team he is currently interim manager of does not look like a Rangers side.

At his press conference, Ferguson felt Hibs – who are now unbeaten in their last 16 matches – deserved to win because they wanted three points more than Rangers.

Barry Ferguson thought Hibs wanted win more than Rangers

And that, for Foster, is the most damning indictment a player can hear from his manager after a defeat such as the one at Ibrox.

Foster told The Go Radio Football Show: “Yeah, that’s the worst thing I think a manager can say about his players, it’s worst thing for a player to hear. Typically when you’re losing, you try harder because you’re desperate not to lose.

“Barry Ferguson is right what he’s said, Hibs were better. So I think if you’re a player in that dressing room, if you’ve got any kind of personal pride, which to be fair I think the Rangers players do, they’ll be chomping at the bit to get to Thursday and show a difference.

“I’m just looking at the subs from Saturday. Bajrami, Balogun, Cortes, Curtis, Danilo, Hagi, Kelly, McCausland, Propper. So you’re talking about changes – who are you putting in?”

The Rangers changes Ferguson has promised for Athletic Club

Ferguson vowed to make ‘a series of changes’ to his starting XI as Rangers now prepare for their Europa League quarter-final first leg against Athletic Club.

Jack Butland has been seriously questioned by Andy Halliday after the Rangers goalkeeper made another huge mistake against Hibs. So could Liam Kelly come in?

Elsewhere, Hamza Igamane was completely ineffective on the left wing against the Hibees. Surely it’s as clear as day for Ferguson to play Ianis Hagi there?

Cyriel Dessers gets dogs abuse for his inability to convert chances he should be converting. But the Nigerian has scored 23 goals this season – does he deserve to be dropped?

These are the crucial questions Ferguson must answer as he racks his brains over who to field from the start ahead of Rangers’ biggest game of the season to date this week.
