Pre-contracts can be a great way to get quality signings in for next to nothing. Barring a signing on fee, or a development fee for young players, signing up stars on pre-contracts is an intelligent way to navigate an inflated market.
Rangers have utilised pre-contracts a lot in recent years. From Allan MGregor and Scott Arfield this season, to the highly rated Jordan Rossiter in the past, Rangers scouting team has their eye on plenty of talent whose contracts are running down.
Are these three pre-contracts we’re looking at going into next season?
Lawrence Shankland
The rampant Ayr United striker has been the subject of much talk concerning a move to Ibrox. He is after all destroying it in the Championship and is a Rangers supporter. He said himself he’d love the move. We could get him for around £400k in January or also wait it out until the end of the season and get him for nothing.
Would it be cruel to take him off Ayr United now? The 23 year old’s goals has them second in the Scottish Championship.

Glen Kamara
An athletic, talented and composed defensive midfielder, Kamara would be a snip on a pre-contract. There have also been reports of Rangers interest. We’ve got a few defensive midfielders so are under no pressure to buy one. But the Arsenal youth graduate is another available on a Bosman come June.
Still only 23, the Finnish international is only going to get better. He’s also been a shining light in a dire season for the Dens Park club.

Jordan Jones
The flying winger and Rangers fan was the subject of Rangers interest last January. Steve Clarke called the resultant bid derisory. That’s not something Rangers will have to worry about now. Reports suggest he’s on his way and it’s only a matter of deciding on when. Will it be January or June?
I’d say it depends on the price.
