Are Rangers looking at Glen Kamara as Ovie Ejaria’s replacement? – Report

With Ovie Ejaria having left Rangers to head back to Liverpool, has Steven Gerrard already sourced a replacement in Dundee’s Glen Kamara?

The Daily Mail have reported that Rangers have “reignited” their interest in Dundee’s midfield star. Kamara is the Dee’s best player, but has struggled with injury problems over the last 12 months.

This season, however, the Finnish international has notched 15 club appearances. In addition to that, he’s also been capped on three occasions by Finland since the start of the current campaign.

Rangers could be spurred on by the fact that Kamara is out of contract next summer. Dundee aren’t cash-strapped, but Rangers could easily tempt them with an offer that suits both parties.

The Gers only have to look at last weekend to see the impact the Dee midfielder has on his side. His tricky footwork and ability to get out of tight situations was key against Rangers last Sunday. Dundee took a 1-1 draw from Gerrard’s men at Dens Park, and Kamara was central to it.

Not the first time Rangers and Kamara have been linked

Rangers have been linked with the international star on several occasions. Only last weekend we put a case forward for why the deal should go ahead in January.

With Ejaria having left the club after becoming surprisingly “unsettled”, Rangers have a gap to fill. Ejaria only scored two goals during his time at Ibrox as well as bag one assist. His presence on the pitch won’t be missed, and whilst he goes back to Liverpool with everyone’s best wishes, Rangers could undoubtedly improve on him.

Kamara fits a similar bill to Ejaria. He’s a ball-player and a creator. His engine from the midfield is his main attribute, and is suited to playing further up the pitch than the likes of Ryan Jack and Lassana Coulibaly.

Of course, if Rangers want to seal a deal for Kamara, they’ll have to fend off Frank Lampard’s Derby County. The Championship battlers are also in the mix for him, with Lampard apparently asking about his availability.

It would perhaps be a signing that underwhelms Rangers fans, but it would be a useful one. Are Rangers truly interested, however? Only time will tell.
