Rangers should revive their interest in Glen Kamara

The idea of Glen Kamara at Rangers won’t have supporters jumping up and down with delight, but at this stage he would be a solid signing.

At Dens Park yesterday, Kamara was given a big opportunity to impress against Rangers. He certainly did that after a wonderful midfield display.

He showed tremendous feet with Rangers trying to put the Dee under pressure in the midfield. Despite often having several players around him, Kamara danced around the Rangers midfield at times with ease.

He showed fantastic box-to-box energy, and has really taken his game onto a new level this season. He’s Dundee’s best player (even including Kenny Miller) and has improved from the player Rangers were interested in during the summer.

Injuries have put a slight downer on him this season. Despite making 14 appearances for the Dens Park side this season, it could’ve been so much more. What he’s shown in those rare appearances, however, is that he has the quality to play for Rangers.

A good player and a good character

Rangers also need characters in their squad to have a good go at a title challenge. The former Arsenal man, at just 23 years of age, was happy to pick the ball up for the 10 men under pressure and relieve it with his footwork.

Despite his injury worries this season, the midfielder has managed to make three international appearances for Finland. With three assists in his 13 Dee appearances so far, he’s proving to be a more influential attacker than Ovie Ejaria.

The midfielder’s contract at Dens Park runs out in 18 months. Talks had been ongoing about a new deal, but Kamara could be starting to have one eye on speculation.

If Rangers are to make their move, however, they need to do it fairly quickly. Sunderland have been long admirers of the former Arsenal kid, whilst Swansea City have also recently joined the race for his signature.

The English names certainly shouldn’t put Rangers off, however. If Rangers want to make a move for Kamara after yesterday, then they have to approach Dundee soon.

He looked impressive yesterday and ready to make the step-up. Given how much Rangers are lacking in midfield inspiration, there’s certainly been worse ideas.
