Ally McCoist gives forthright Rangers views but Philippe Clement escapes his ire

Ally McCoist is never a man to sidestep any issues at his beloved Rangers – and he’s not about to start.

Super Ally has a platform to air his views and has done so recently on the way Gers are being run. And he certainly wasn’t enjoying what he saw at Rugby Park yesterday either.

As with other former Ibrox heroes, Coisty would have known how important it is playing the day after Celtic have dropped points in the league and would have been exasperated with what unfolded in Ayrshire.

There’s no escaping the fact Rangers weren’t good enough against Kilmarnock and that led to some scathing player ratings from Rangers News.

McCoist has his say on underperforming Rangers

McCoist clearly feels strongly that a lot of issues come from the very top of the club, though pointed out stand-in chairman John Gilligan is doing the best he can.

But the uncertainty in other key positions is clearly a problem for the legend.

Asked on talkSPORT for his thoughts, he said: “What do you want me to say? We’re hopeless. We’re not very good. We need to get a bit of stability at the top, straight away, what he (Clement) said after the game was definitely factually correct, but the fact of the matter is, performance levels were poor. Really, really poor.

“From Rangers‘ point of view, there is no chairman at this point in time. John Gilligan is doing his very best, and he will continue to do so, but there is a lack of stability at the top. There is no chief executive, the previous chief executive nipped away to Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, wherever he went. The club, the spine of the club, is not right.”

He did though insists the players should have been capable of producing more despite the issues at boardroom, adding: “One hundred per cent, don’t take that for a minute, players have got to look at themselves, it was a shocking performance, don’t think I’m sidestepping the issue and not giving the players any stick. Poor midfield, shocking goal to lose and never created nearly enough.

Clement escapes McCoist Rangers blame

Some Rangers fans have begun to turn on manager Philippe Clement with his position being called into question and some saying the outcome is “inevitable.”

But McCoist doesn’t think that should be the case because of the situation he inherited and the poor player recruitment that went before.

He added: “A couple of things, I don’t think the club are in any position to start getting rid of people. I don’t think they can afford it financially.

“The fact of the matter is this, he has to get better results. Where I would stick up for him a little bit, I am not sure he has been dealt the best hand of cards with the players he has left. The recruitment prior to him coming has been absolutely not nearly good enough.”
