Robby McCrorie branded ‘muppet’ by ex Rangers teammate for Kilmarnock celebrations

Yesterday’s defeat to Kilmarnock was a tough one to take for those of a Rangers persuasion.

To then look at social media and see an academy graduate lapping it up twisted that knife just a little bit more. Robby McCrorie was the man keeping goal for the home side and he managed to keep a clean sheet.

The 26-year-old was highly rated as he came through the Gers youth ranks and all the way up until his departure in the summer, was seen as a potential first pick.

The problem was that he had reached an age where he desperately wanted to play first-team football and he simply wasn’t going to dislodge Jack Butland, who is contracted until 2027.

It didn’t make sense for McCrorie to hang around for another three years barely playing any games and then hope he became number one at Ibrox – and he would already be nearly pushing 30 by that point having wasted yet more years.

So it definitely made sense for all parties for a parting of the ways to happen.

John Lundstram calls McCrorie ‘muppet’ for celebrating Rangers defeat

But all the same, it was still tough for Rangers fans to see ‘one of their own’ celebrating their demise on social media last night.

McCrorie had every right to be happy with his and his team’s efforts but that didn’t mean it didn’t sting.

The shotstopper posted pictures of the post-match celebrations as well as one of him making a save from John Souttar, and captioned it: “Brilliant team performance.”

Kilmarnock fans and teammates were loving it and brother Ross, another allowed to leave by Rangers, replied with clapping hands emojis.

But former Ibrox teammate John Lundstram was not quite as happy and wrote: “Couldn’t wait to get this up could you ye muppet.”

It seemed to be taken in jest though as McCrorie replied: “Fs Lunny laaaa.”

Strong McCrorie performance vs Rangers

McCrorie, unfortunately, turned in a decent display against his old club as he perhaps tried to prove a point.

According to Fot Mob, he made three saves and prevented 0.42 goals. He also made 12 recoveries and even created a chance!

To be fair, he only faced an xGOT (expected goals on target) of 0.42 but he stood up to what was thrown at him well.
