The weekend’s trip up to Aberdeen’s Pittodrie stadium didn’t prove quite as fruitful as we’d hoped.
With Rangers on rampant form and having dismantled the Dons 4-2 on their own patch last month, many thought we’d dispatch them routinely this time around. As it turns out they’ve earned a replay at Ibrox next week.
But much of that was down to one man in particular. Graeme Shinnie is Aberdeen’s best player and – whilst lucky to remain on the pitch yesterday afternoon – is a nuisance in midfield. Rangers could certainly do worse.

The Dons captain and by and large their talisman, Shinnie’s contract is quietly running down in the background at Aberdeen. There have been a scattering of reports suggesting Rangers’ interest (originally by Bristol Post) but nothing concrete.
The Scottish Sun reported then reported Shinnie was set to move to Wigan Athletic, but this was rebuffed by Derek McInnes. Shinnie’s future remains undecided, or so it seems.
A solid option for the Scottish Premiership?
He is a physical, restless presence in midfield and also an industrious player with the ball. I don’t buy the idea that he’s garbage. Whilst there’s certainly more competition at Ibrox, he’d be a useful player for us domestically.

Far too often we’ve been tasked with battling hardy sides and far too often we’ve failed to match that physicality or let them inside our heads. Whilst we are getting there, Shinnie would add that bite in abundance. Rangers fans are generally split on Graeme Shinnie, with some not rating the player.
But I believe he would be a useful signing. And especially after we poached former Dons captain Ryan Jack, it would infuriate their supporters no end. Whilst that’s not the main draw, it’s certainly a bonus.
