Rangers have been linked with the signing of Germany and HSV midfielder Lewis Holtby after it was announced he’d be leaving Hamburg in the summer.
The dynamic midfielder was linked with a move to Ibrox by Irish journalist Ronan Murphy. The Daily Record also claim sources in Germany have informed them Rangers are on the hunt for the player.
Holtby has experience in British football with Spurs and Fulham, has three caps for Germany and is still only 28. He’s a hardworking, creative midfield player with experience at the highest level. Needless to say, it’s a signing which has some Rangers fans very excited at the prospect.

The general feeling here is that if Rangers can get Lewis Holtby in on an affordable contract he’d be a very astute signing for the club.
Rangers have lacked that creative punch in midfield this season. It’s been one of the biggest complaints from supporters all year and Holtby could provide a mobile, creative solution.
The fact there’s no transfer fee is a major bonus. But there is no indication how much Holtby would demand in wages.

To me, early indications suggest this would be a solid signing. Midfield transfers between Rangers and HSV have traditionally gone pretty well too. Just ask Jorg Albertz.
But should any move for Holtby fail or not materialise, there are plenty more talented playmakers with contracts running down.

Such as this Dutch international or this former Rangers number 10.
