Much of the criticism levelled at Rangers this season has revolved around a lack of a number 10. Lewis MacLeod isn’t just a player in that style – he actually wore the shirt for Rangers in his first spell.
The Scottish youngster has been terribly unlucky with injuries since he left Ibrox for Brentford way back in the winter transfer window of 2015. It’s a shame – he was a top talent at Rangers and a shining light in otherwise dark times.
But with his contract quietly running down at Brentford, could the 24-year-old man an unprecedented return to Govan?

It’s certainly an option. MacLeod will be available on a free in the summer as his contract expires at the end of the season [Transfermarkt].
This season looked to be the former Rangers midfielder’s breakthrough at the London club. He started the season fit and began to hold down a first-team place. His three goals and two assists were backed up by strong performances in his 16 Championship showings.
The creative midfielder was certainly starting to show the form that made him a fan favourite at Ibrox.
But after scoring an injury-time equaliser against West Brom in December, MacLeod picked up a hamstring injury. It’s meant he hasn’t been seen in a Brentford kit since.

Many fans might see MacLeod’s recent injury history as a big risk at Ibrox.
But any move could prove more than just a homecoming which fills the number 10 gap at Rangers. It could help kickstart the talented midfielder’s injury ravaged career.
If Rangers don’t move for Lewis MacLeod, could they move for this fellow Championship playmaker instead?
