Contract of Swansea's Leroy Fer set to expire – should Rangers pounce?

Rangers have been on the hunt for that creative, roaming midfield force all season – and in Leroy Fer, could the club finally get what they’re looking for?
The Swansea midfielder and Dutch international’s contract expires come the end of the season [according to Transfermarkt]. That means Rangers can sign him on a pre-contract now. Transfermarkt also values the player at £8m.
Rangers would be getting an international class midfielder desperate to relaunch his career on a big stage. He also wouldn’t cost a penny. But could his reported £35k per week wages prove a stumbling block?

A physical, roaming playmaker with an eye for a pass, and for goal, Leroy Fer would be a strong signing by Steven Gerrard. At 6ft2 the big Dutchman is a commanding presence in midfield and very useful with the ball at his feet.

Good experience of British football

Starting his career at Feyenoord, Fer eventually joined FC Twente for £5m. He then moved to then Premier League outfit Norwich where he has arguably enjoyed the best footballing spell of his English career to date.
Following Norwich’s relegation from the top league, Fer joined QPR for a reported £8m. After failing to settle at Loftus Road he joined Swansea on loan before completing the transfer at the beginning of the 16/17 season.

Still only 29, we’d be getting a player in his prime who might now be looking to get more than money from his career.
At Rangers, he’ll be joining a side hungry for success and one of Europe’s biggest clubs. Rangers would be getting a player with eleven international caps and someone with a real point to prove. It could prove a great move by the club and the player.
Speaking of midfielder’s available on pre-contracts, news broke recently that Rangers won’t be moving for one closer to home after all.
