A fully-fit Jamie Murphy can soften any Rangers Ryan Kent blow

So much of Rangers, early transfer window talk has been dominated by Liverpool loanee Ryan Kent.
Until the winger’s future is decided – it’ll probably remain that way. There remains a “possibility” Rangers could sign the player, and the club have made an offer to Liverpool.
But as we wait patiently, you’re best to prepare for the worst in football. And if Ryan Kent is forced to move elsewhere, do Rangers have a readymade replacement in Jamie Murphy?

The Scotland international and former Brighton man was desperately unlucky this season.
After showing real flashes of his quality in his initial loan spell last season, Murphy was set to be a key player in the side this campaign.
But after a freak injury on Kilmarnock’s controversial plastic pitch, he’s been out of the side since August.

The fact Murphy’s been injured has actually aided Kent’s development. You get the impression he wouldn’t have got the minutes to win the PFA’s Young Player of the Year award if Murphy was fully fit.
Both are players who can carry the ball, both are forwards who like to score goals. Whilst Kent perhaps has more natural ability, flair and trickery, Murphy makes up for it in experience.
But whilst fans will hope that both players are part of the Rangers squad next season, should Kent leave, a fully-fit Murphy will help to cushion the initial blow of the winger’s departure.
