Rangers predicted XI for the Premier Sports Cup tie against St Johnstone on Saturday evening as the team aim to return to winning ways.
It’s been a very tough few weeks for Rangers fans and the last thing they need for their Saturday night is to be knocked out of the cup by St Johnstone.
The Perth Saints are the visitors to Hampden on Sunday and it’s safe to say given how Rangers have started the season and how their squad is looking at the moment, supporters are a little concerned.
Failure to qualify for the Champions League proper has sunk Rangers into the mire from a financial point of view and if they can’t ship away the players Philippe Clement wants rid of, they won’t be able to add to their nine new signings made this summer.
Fans will agree Rangers are an utter mess at the moment but the players must regroup after Tuesday night and deliver a result in the Premier Sports Cup to keep them in the hunt for as many trophies as possible this season.
So how could Rangers shape up for the teatime kick-off? With Ridvan Yilmaz’s injury against Dynamo Kyiv, there’s likely to be a couple of changes.
Dujon Sterling and Vaclav Cerny come in
Yilmaz had to be stretchered off on Tuesday night with what appeared to be a muscle tear in his leg. He looked in severe pain so the prognosis doesn’t seem to be very positive.
That means Jefte, the victim of a shocking refereeing decision in midweek, will slot back into left-back after starting on the wing against the Ukrainians.
Rangers are short as it is for the left wing position but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Clement opt for Ross McCausland on that side.
There will be uproar in the Hampden stands if Vaclav Cerny isn’t selected from the start but it is likely the Czech will take up a position on the right.
Tom Lawrence may well drop out of the starting XI due to poor form and given his injury history so Mohamed Diomande could be deployed just behind Cyriel Dessers.
That means room for Dujon Sterling alongside the impressive Connor Barron and Rangers shaping up in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
