Danny Rohl did something which was akin to Jose Mourinho as Rangers beat Hearts 4-2 at Ibrox on Sunday.

Youssef Chermiti was the star for Rangers as they reduced the gap to the league leaders Hearts to just two points.

Rohl masterminded a win at Ibrox, proving that he is the right man to help the Gers in their quest for a 56th Scottish Premiership title.

Ryan Stevenson makes Jose Mourinho and Danny Rohl comparison

Former Hearts striker Ryan Stevenson was on BBC Sportsound offering his analysis on the game.

While he would have been pleased with how the visitors started the match, he would be less than impressed with how things ended.

One thing he did notice at Ibrox was Rohl’s behaviour on the touchline, which reminded him a lot of Mourinho.

In the 91st minute, after Chermiti scored, the German manager, along with everyone watching the game, knew that the three points were finally in the bag.

Sky Sports footage shows an ecstatic Rohl running down the touchline in the direction of the celebrating Rangers players.

That reminded Stevenson of Mourinho doing that when he was FC Porto manager against Manchester United at Old Trafford in 2004.

The BBC pundit said: “Danny Rohl was like a young Jose Mourinho running down the touchline there.”

How Rohl’s tactical mind masterminded Rangers to victory over Hearts

Rohl started two strikers in Chermiti and Ryan Naderi, which led many to think he would play a flat 4-4-2.

However, it was more of a 4-2-2-2, with the two attacking players behind the strikers playing as free number 10s.

Both Mikey Moore and Andreas Skov Olsen had the licence to wander, but it was the former who seemed to be all over the pitch, while the latter primarily occupied the right half-space.

Chermiti was also told to drop deep and make sensible runs into the penalty area, which he did to perfection.

Nicolas Raskin was asked to be the shield, with Tochi Chukwuani urged to join the attack as and when possible.

Starting Tuur Rommens as well as Chermiti was a masterstroke from Rohl and arguably what led to his side winning the game.
