Rating the chances of five Rangers Scotland hopefuls making Euro 2024 squad

As Scotland find out their Euro 2024 fate, there are no fewer than five Rangers players who will be hoping to be on the plane to Germany.

The national team are set to open the competition against their Bavarian hosts, with challenging clashes against Hungary and Switzerland to complete the group.

Back-up goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin was the only Rangers player in the Scotland squad for Euro 2020 but there are five who will hope to be in Steve Clarke’s thoughts ahead of the 2024 edition.

Whilst the lack of homegrown options in the Scotland XI has been a stark reminder of Rangers’ domestic transfer failures, there are still some ready to fly the Ibrox flag.

Euro 2024 crossroads for Ryan Jack and Rangers – 8/10

As Scotland midfielder Ryan Jack approaches Euro 2024, he’s entering a challenging moment in his Rangers career.

At 31-years-old the ex-Aberdeen captain isn’t getting any younger and his contract is up at the end of the current campaign.

Currently out of the side with an injury sustained on international duty, it’s opened up a big conversation about Ryan Jack balancing Rangers and Scotland expectations.

An effective player when he plays, Philippe Clement has hinted such a discussion is on the horizon with Euro 2024 probably Ryan Jack’s last hurrah at Scotland level if he wants to continue at Rangers.

The 18-times capped midfielder missed Euro 2020 due to injury but is a favourite of the Scotland manager’s.

Injuries only thing holding John Souttar back – 7/10

John Souttar is another Scotland regular in the Rangers squad who is consistently held back by recurring injury problems.

Having been at Ibrox over a year, Rangers fans are also beginning to express doubts surrounding John Souttar’s consistency when he does play in Glasgow.

Until a combination of fitness and form return for the ex-Dundee United and Hearts defender, the jury will remain out on John Souttar at Rangers and Scotland level.

But it’s clear that if the defender can prove his fitness, he’ll certainly be in Steve Clarke’s Euro 2024 thoughts and could be included in any squad this summer.

Steve Clarke wants Robby McCrorie to play – 6/10

It’s easy to forget that Robby McCrorie – long touted as one of Scotland’s best young goalkeepers – is now 25-years-old.

The talented stopper is no kid and has been routinely called into the Scotland squad as the national team test out a succession of new stoppers.

Still without a cap, Scotland manager Steve Clarke has been clear Robby McCrorie has to play if the Rangers stopper is to make it with the country.

January looms large and with Robby McCrorie second place to the established Jack Butland, a winter move could be the key to his Euro 2024 chances.

Is Jon McLaughlin finished at Scotland level? – 2/10

Also propping up the goalkeeping options in the Rangers squad is Scotland international stopper Jon McLaughlin.

Now third choice at Ibrox, it appears unlikely that Jon McLaughlin will make the Euro 2024 squad for Scotland but he isn’t without hope.

The fact Robby McCrorie is making the Scotland squad shows there’s a lack of quality options and some time on the park could be game changing for the two-times capped Rangers stopper.

The only thing is Jon McLaughlin will likely have to leave Rangers to get those minutes with the player’s contract up in the summer and the stopper yet to appear this season.

Rangers’ Scott Wright has Euro 2024 ambitions – 3/10

Whilst Scott Wright has yet to be capped for Scotland, the Rangers winger has expressed his desire to play for the country before.

With a move to Turkey looming in the summer, Wright claimed that the proposed Super Lig switch could embolden his Scotland hopes.

After the move to Pendikspor collapsed, Scott Wright has been back in the Rangers squad and is actually set to return after a minor injury setback.

At the moment a Euro 2024 call seems a long shot, but if Scott Wright can start firing consistently for Rangers don’t rule him out of earning a place in the Scotland squad.
