Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack is doubtful for a return to Aberdeen after international duty with Scotland.

Ibrox manager Philippe Clement made the claim ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Premiership trip to face Aberdeen after what feels like an exhaustive international break.

Alongside Ryan Jack, Rangers will also be without fellow midfielder Nicolas Raskin for the trip to face the Dons whilst striker Kemar Roofe is back in training.

“Raskin still out, Jack is doubtful for Sunday,” said Clement.

“Roofe is starting to train with the team in full sessions a couple days a week, the rest of the squad trained as normal. Nico will return in the next couple of weeks, not a major issue now.

“It’s important to keep everyone fit. We need all the players to show they are ready with the fixtures we have. I’m satisfied with the level of training and the satisfaction and dedication. There has been the same amount of work during the international break but in different ways to busy match weeks.”

Rangers’ Ryan Jack an Aberdeen doubt after Scotland duty

As midfielder Ryan Jack comes back from Scotland duty doubtful, it’ll have Rangers fans raising a few eyebrows ahead of the trip to Aberdeen

Jacko has seen the best part of the last two or so seasons – and by proxy his time at Rangers – interrupted with a series of injury and fitness issues.

With the player’s contract up at the end of the season, Rangers fans will be pointing to these continuing problems, the player’s age, and his commitment to club and country.

Routinely used from the bench but still a regular feature of Steve Clarke’s squad, having missed the last European Championships it’s hard to begrudge Ryan Jack looking to make next summer’s competition in Germany.

But beyond the borders of that competition, if Ryan Jack is serious about still being able to contribute for Rangers, perhaps the international fortnights need to start being viewed differently.

The 31-year-old Ibrox star had played in all four of Rangers’ final matches up until the international fortnight, going on to play 11 minutes in the national side’s draw with Norway.

Jack was the only Rangers representative in a stark reminder of the club’s homegrown shortcomings.
