PSV Eindhoven midfielder Xavi Simons is reportedly a transfer target for Man Utd, just 15 months after the young Dutch talent was extensively linked with Rangers.
The 19-year-old midfielder remains widely regarded as one of the top talents in European football and Rangers were linked with a move for the player as early as last year.

Under Dutch manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, there were several gathering reports that Rangers were a legitimate option for Xavi Simons as his contract ticked down at Ligue 1 giants PSG.
That’s the same PSG who forked out a substantial amount to sign Simons on his first professional contract, with the youngster initially trained at Barcelona.
Man Utd linked to former Rangers target Xavi Simons
As things would transpire, the player has since joined PSV Eindhoven and the talented youngster even came up against Rangers in this season’s Champions League qualifiers.
But just a few months later a rejuvenated Man Utd have been linked with a move for Xavi Simons as Erik ten Hag reportedly targets one of the Netherlands’ brightest young talents.
At least that’s according to Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, who also believes that billionaire backed Newcastle United are monitoring the player’s situation.
Whilst Mr Konur is a certain brand of transfer journalist, the story has since been covered extensively elsewhere and has spawned a few resultant stories, including this one.
But on a purely speculative level at least, the story will have Rangers fans thinking what might’ve been had the club managed to pull off the signing of now-Man Utd linked Xavi Simons.
Regarded as one of the brightest talents in the game, Rangers could be looking at a potential fortune if the deal was pulled off with some of the richest clubs in football now monitoring his situation.
It just goes to show that investing in young European talent works, a la Malik Tillman.
