Neither Ridvan Yilmaz or Borna Barisic looked particularly convincing during pre-season training for Rangers.
The young Turk looked better in the final third but both made mistakes at the back and the Croatian chipped in with his customary assists from cross balls – it comes down to a matter of game plan and who fits it best.
Only Barisic has played a competitive game between the pair but with an Old Firm derby fast approaching, Michael Beale should be looking to get Ridvan Yilmaz up to full speed for Rangers.

With two interceptions, three tackles and four out of six ground duels won, RIdvan Yilmaz put in easily the best defensive display from a Rangers full-back in recent derby memory.
More impressive though, was the 22-year old’s one-to-one statistic of not being dribbled past in the whole game despite Celtic trying every winger of the four who played down Rangers left.

This is what the young Turk is capable of.

Ridvan Yilmaz is Rangers Old Firm risk worth taking
Michael Beale confirmed that Ridvan Yilmaz was back in full training for Rangers this week and he has also been seen taking part with B team sessions.
Hopefully, this is with a view to getting him game time when the senior team is preparing for and playing in the Champions League after he was swapped in the squad with Ben Davies.
Ross County has come too soon and he won’t be able to play against PSV next week either which would make it a gamble to throw him straight in against Celtic.

But, if he is fit, this is exactly what Beale should do.
Anthony Ralston would be his opposite number, the Celtic right-back is many things, but quick he is not.
Playing Borna Barisic against Ralston plays into their hands who has been known to get bullied out of Old Firm games in the past.
If Beale wants front foot, handbrake off, attacking football, Ridvan Yilmaz, should be the surprise Old Firm inclusion for Rangers.
