Michael Beale wants two quality players for each position and in Borna Barisic and Ridvan Tilmaz, he has exactly that competing for the left-back slot at Rangers.

The two internationals look set to go head to head for the starting jersey this season in what will be a fascinating battle given how they play the game.

Borna Barisic is the known quantity and the creator from deep with Ridvan Yilmaz the frustrated winger and both have lots to offer Rangers in attack as seen v Hallescher FC on RTV.

Barisic v Ridvan for Rangers left-back role

Ridvan came into the team at the end of the campaign after a frustrating year which saw him miss most of it through a serious hamstring injury.

His return maybe came too late but an outstanding display in his first Old Firm derby saw Celtic try four wingers against the diminutive Turk with no success.

Barisic, on the other hand, has his critics but there is no getting away from the fact that he was still one of our better players last year – despite the high profile mistakes.

With 13 goals and two assists, he remains a potent attacking force too.

Providing the assist for Abdallah Sima against Hellescher he showed, once again, how accurate a crosser he is given space but a second half moment showed that Ridvan won’t let him have it his own way.

The problem with Borna is, he he doesn’t have space l, he has to or invariably goes backwards, whereas Ridvan takes things into his own hands.

One driving run almost led to a fine solo goal and in a competitive match the 22-year old would probably have taken the less selfish option and squared it to Rabbi Matondo for a tap in.

Two different full backs but two very good options at what they do.

A breaker of low blocks and a pin point crosser when there is more space and fewer defenders.

If Barisic isn’t sold, that is.
