Rangers exit sees mercurial talent grab the headlines

Rangers have been short of goals and short of creativity in recent games but it’s good to see Alex Lowry making the impact for Hearts that everyone knows he is capable of.

Game time has been restricted in recent weeks for the 20-year old despite an impressive cameo on his debut and an early man of the match display as Steven Naismith struggles to get results.

A win over Kilmarnock thanks to the Rangers loanee might remind the Jambo’s boss that Alex Lowry has something to offer.

Rangers exit sees Alex Lowry hit the headlines

On paper, Tynecastle looked like the perfect place for the playmaker to get some valuable experience.

High expectations, a good squad and an intimidating home crowd all made for reasons why Hearts could be a good fit.

Playing every week or every game is unrealistic given his inexperience and what Hearts aspirations are, however, he has made as much of an impact as some of their regulars so far.

Should Rangers make it through against Livingston, and draw Hearts, Alex Lowry wouldn’t be able to play but he has more than done them a favour with his last minute winner.

Coming on as a sub after the 90 minute mark, Lowry took just a minute to become the hero of the night.

A composed finish – which is one of his traits – showed a maturity beyond his years and provided the latest example of why patience is needed with the mercurial talent.

Creative players can be inconsistent, young ones even more so.

Moments like this will grab the headlines but if Lowry can continue to contribute and finish the season with 30 games or so to his name, then it will be a success.

If he scores more goals like this one then it should see him given a chance with Rangers next season, although Ianis Hagi might have a word or two to say about Alex Lowry’s celebration.
