Rangers chief executive James Bisgrove has confirmed that a move for a new sporting director to replace Ross Wilson will have to wait until after the transfer window.
The incoming Ibrox chief was speaking about the ongoing search to replace the Nottingham Forest bound director, with Michael Beale and John Park fronting the club’s transfer business this summer.
Rangers have certainly been busy so far with nine players coming into the club and about the same number heading out in the most substantial squad turnover in recent years.
Rangers shelve sporting director hunt
Such is the delicate nature of these things, James Bisgrove claims that Rangers’ sporting director hunt has been shelved until after Michael Beale gets to the end of this window.

“The priority in the last couple of months has been the transfer window and the work that we have been doing in the window,” said Bisgrove.
“We have been working really closely – myself, the chairman, the manager – and we have got John Park, who is our chief scout and that team have been really focused on the finite amount of time we have had to deliver the window.
“Once we get through that, we will catch our breath and start looking at some of the other decisions in terms of club appointments.
“We have met different individuals, individuals with great experience. Some are UK based, some have more international experience.
“As I said, given the focus that we have had on the summer transfer window, we decided that is where we needed to take decisions for now and then we will revisit that at the right time.
“Yes, it is a possibility [that we could stick with the current structure]. It is a possibility. We will meet as a board in early September, just before the Celtic game, and we will discuss that as a potential scenario, aligned to some of the candidates that we have met.”
Murmurs of interest from several candidates
There have been several names linked to the role of Rangers sporting director, with the likes of ex-Gers defender Carlos Bocanegra mooted earlier in the summer.
Ex-Arsenal man Steve Morrow is another who has been linked, whilst there have been murmurs around the likes of former Rangers players such as Craig Moore or Graeme Souness.
Ross Wilson had been Rangers sporting director since October 2019 and initially replaced Mark Allen in the role at Ibrox before moving back to the Premier League last season.
