QPR have appointed Hammarby manager Marti Cifuentes as their new manager after shock links to a return for former Rangers manager Michael Beale.
The English Championship side have officially announced Spanish coach Marti Cifuentes as their new manager, with the 41-year-old to replace Gareth Ainsworth in West London.
Whilst the new QPR manager might not be known so much around the UK, Marti Cifuentes has been in charge of Swedish side Hammarby for the last two seasons.
The Spanish manager – who is no relation to Rangers star Jose – also has quite the job on his hands with QPR suffering a sixth straight Championship loss at the weekend.
That defeat to Leicester City at Loftus Road means the club have just two wins in 14 league games with QPR currently sitting 23rd in the Championship table.
QPR appoint manager amid Michael Beale links
The appointment also brings an end to links between QPR and a shock return for Michael Beale, who controversially quit the Rs to take over Rangers last November.
Sun journalist Alan Nixon had claimed that Michael Beale was interested in a return to QPR but before the appointment of Marti Cifuentes the club were instead heavily linked to Neil Warnock.
Having reiterated his commitment to Loftus Road after an approach from Premier League Wolves, the move to Rangers drew huge criticism south of the border.
The move also somewhat backfired on Michael Beale with the Rangers manager’s job a seriously different beast than that at QPR.

Having failed to win either domestic cup last season, or effectively put up a fight as Celtic romped to the title, this season’s stuttering start condemned Michael Beale before the Christmas trees came out this season.
With Philippe Clement in charge of Rangers now, the club are trying to install a winning mentality and Michael Beale is fast disappearing in our rear view mirror.
Whilst a move to QPR is off the table, reports have suggested that Michael Beale is still in the running for another top job in the English Championship.
