Premier League newboys Nottingham Forest will be hoping to get some revenge on Rangers as they reportedly lead the hunt for out-of-contract Joe Rothwell.

Whilst there has been no official confirmation, Forest were one of the main sides being mentioned as potential suitors for Rangers stalwart Connor Goldson.

Goldson himself even hinted at Premier League interest but the lure of prizes and winning on a weekly basis proved too much with the defender signing a four-year deal.

But now Nottingham Forest appear determined not to miss out to Rangers again as they ramp up interest in the Blackburn Rovers midfielder.

There is much interest in Joe Rothwell, 27, after an impressive season at Ewood Park in the Championship and the midfielder is also said to be attracting interest from Bournemouth and Fulham.

In fact, the newly promoted Cherries side even failed in a January bid for the player but now it appears to be the City Ground, and not the Vitality or Ibrox, where Joe Rothwell will head next season.

Rangers-linked Joe Rothwell set for Nottingham Forest move?

At least that’s according to TEAMtalk, who claim Joe Rothwell has been swung by Nottingham Forest’s Playoff promotion to the Premier League.

They claim that Nottingham Forest have “torpedoed” Rangers with the player initially set to agree terms at Ibrox.

It’s a bold claim – with Forest boss Steve Cooper known to be a big fan of the player – and it may come as a bitter disappointment to Rangers if true.

As detailed by the Athletic, Rangers are in the market for players that will improve the starting XI but they are looking to be smart with how they spend money this summer.

With Joe Rothwell available on a free transfer, the ball-carrying midfielder would’ve proven a shrewd signing and now major doubts surround any move.

But whilst TEAMtalk insists Nottingham Forest have pipped Rangers to Joe Rothwell let’s wait for any official announcements from either club.

It wasn’t so long ago that some outlets were claiming Joe Rothwell was “almost certain” to join Rangers this summer…
