The most-up-to-date Rangers Europa League squad has been released on the UEFA website – and there’s one very noticeable exclusion.
Jordan Jones has not been included in the final squad as the likes of Matt Polster, Greg Docherty and Andy Firth also miss out.
But has the high-profile exclusion of Jordan Jones got something to do with the player’s red card tackle on Celtic’s Moritz Bauer?

Before we get into this it’s important to note that under the article 42.07f of the Official Regulations of the Europa League the deadline is:
“2 September 2019 (24.00CET) for all further matches from the first match in the group stage up to and including the final.”
This suggests that this is the final squad for the group stages.
Jones – who’s performance away in Denmark against FC Midtjylland and superb cross for Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox against Legia helped us into the groups – must be smarting at this decision.
Steven Gerrard was not happy with Jones’ red card against Celtic, and it’s since been reported that the player will be out for an extended period through injury.

Whilst earlier reports suggested a few months out [Scottish Sun], more recent coverage suggests it’s only one month [Daily Record].
But whether this comes down to the injury or Steven Gerrard’s anger at the player – with the Gers boss preferring the likes of Brandon Barker – remains to be seen.
Whatever the case, Jones has a lot of making up to do if he’s to prove he deserves a spot this season.
But is Steven Gerrard being too harsh on the winger?
