Rangers winger Jordan Jones faces an extended period out on the sidelines after he saw red for a late lunge on Celtic full-back Patrick Bauer.
The foolish tackle from the Northern Irish winger resulted in Jones receiving his marching orders, but now he also faces up to two months out of action [Scottish Sun].
Whilst everyone in the stadium was frustrated then, Jones and Gers fans will be more frustrated now that we won’t get to see him in action over the next few weeks.
It’s bitterly disappointing and you can bet no-one will understand that more than Jordan Jones, who’s been impressive in his early Rangers career.
The news comes after Jones was pictured leaving Ibrox on crutches following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Old Firm rivals Celtic.
The decision to lunge in late on Bauer also did not impress Steven Gerrard one bit [Football Scotland]. Jones could have some making up to do to get back in the gaffer’s good books.
“Without a shadow of a doubt he [the referee] got that bang on, it was a red card,” said Gerrard.
“I think Jordan has tried to appease the fans but that’s not how you appease Rangers fans – you create goals and score goals if you’re a wide man, that’s how you get fans on your side, not kicking people when the ball’s 10 yards away so he deserves the red card, he deserves his ban and he’s got everything to do now to get back in my team.”
The former Liverpool youngster plays in the same position as Jones and should be able to plug the gap left by Jones’ foolish red card.
