Rangers are reportedly closing in on a deal for Atalanta striker Sam Lammers; but there is some conjecture over the transfer fee the Ibrox club will pay.

There is now extensive reporting suggesting that Rangers are close to announcing a deal for the 26-year-old striker, who joined Atalanta in Serie A for a reported £8m from PSV in 2020.

But there is some disagreemenr regarding how much Rangers will pay for the forward with some reporting the Sam Lammers transfer fee as £3.5m and others claiming the deal is closer to £3m.

Sam Lammers closes in on Rangers move

After a series of uninspiring loan stints in Germany and Italy, Sam Lammers is now set to join Rangers with the likes of Four Lads Had a Dream breaking the news in recent days.

Speaking to the Rangers Review, the fan media outlet’s Stevie Clifford claimed that leading Herald & Times journalist Chris Jack had claimed that Sam Lammers is the closest of the club’s summer targets to being announced.

This comes with the Gers also interested in LAFC’s Ecuadorean international Jose Cifuentes and Cremonese’s Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers.

“I spoke to Chris Jack on Friday evening, and he seemed quite adamant that Sam Lammers was the closest of all three and he expects that one to be done this week,” said Clifford.

“[Arthur Numan] said he’s a very technical player who plays in the hole behind the front man and will link things up. He had a really good time before he moved and hasn’t hit the same heights since, and he’s been on loan a lot.

“I can’t say I know a lot about him, this is where we’re going to have to just trust the manager when it comes to that.”

Striker transfer fee gets people talking

Four Lads Had a Dream would then take to Twitter to claim that Rangers have struck a £3.5m deal with Atalanta for Sam Lammers and – barring any “last minute disasters” – the transfer will be announced this week.

This is the same fee which was reported in the print version of the Scottish Mail on Sunday, the newspaper attributing the fee over the weekend.

However, the Herald and Chris Jack have released some conflicting reports, claiming that the Rangers deal to bring Sam Lammers to Ibrox will only be for £3m.

Fans have been debating amongst themselves regarding the costs involved in the transfer, with Sam Lammers about to enter the final year of his contract at Atalanta.

The report claims that Sam Lammers will arrive in Glasgow in “the coming days” to complete the deal with the striker to become the club’s forth summer signing.

Rangers have already added Norwich midfielder Kieran Dowell, Chelsea defender Dujon Sterling and Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland, who’ve all joined on pre-contracts.
