Rangers are set to bank a six-figure fee as Arsenal line up a move for 15-year-old Academy midfielder Alexander Smith.
The Gers are well-used to the Premier League’s biggest clubs eyeing up their best young talent and it appears Academy star Alexander Smith is set to complete a move down south.
This is according to the Scottish Sun, who claim Arsenal are “on the brink” of completing a deal for the young midfielder, who is regarded as one of Rangers’ brightest talents.
Arsenal closing in on Alexander Smith
Alexander Smith is a Scottish youth international who also has links to the USA set-up, having previously turned out for one of the nation’s youth teams.
A midfielder who starred for Rangers in the East Mallorca Cup in Spain, picking up four Player of the Match awards from five games, Arsenal are said to have been “tracking” the kid for some time.
Brazilian sporting director Edu is expected to be busy firming up the squad of the Premier League title contenders and securing the future of the Alexander Smith would be considered a major win.
Whilst the report claims Rangers are set to bank a “six-figure” fee for the youngster, it is not clear exactly how much the Ibrox side stand to earn for developing the kid.
Premier League’s eyes on Rangers Academy
Rangers are well used to some of the top clubs south of the border poaching their best young talent from the Academy.
The stand-out example is obviously Scotland international midfielder Billy Gilmour, who made headlines when he moved to Chelsea for £250K in 2017 and now turns out for Brighton.
Only last summer Rangers also lost prolific young striker Rory Wilson, who joined Aston Villa in a reported £350k deal.
That said, Rangers have had some wins in this regards in recent seasons.

Defender Leon King has routinely been linked with a move to the likes of Manchester United but Rangers have continued to convince him of his future at Ibrox.
Midfielder Bailey Rice also signed a deal at Rangers amid widely reported interest from the likes Manchester City, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, West Ham, and even Real Madrid.
Youngster Ross McCausland – who has taken the step up to become a first-team regular this season – has also just signed a new contract amid links to St James’ Park.
