Rangers and Celtic have been locking horns this summer in their pursuit to sign Zinedin Smajlovic.
The Swedish defender joined Sandefjord in January last year, and he ended the 2025/26 season strongly.
Smajlovic’s performances put him on Rangers’ radar as they are keen on replacing Nasser Djiga and Derek Cornelius.
While Ben Godfrey has already signed, the club are still keen on another centre-back.

The club made an official announcement via Instagram on Monday to confirm the arrival of the 22-year-old centre-back.
Rangers News reported Olympiacos’ interest in Smajlovic, and they have officially won the race for his transfer.

Celtic, despite making a bid for the defender, have failed to bring him to Parkhead this summer.

In other Rangers news, Allan McGregor’s return has been confirmed, with him officially joining the coaching staff.
He has returned as the goalkeeping coach and will work with new signing Ivor Pandur as well as Liam Kelly, as the other reserve and youth keepers.
Welcoming McGregor back to Ibrox, McInnes said: “Allan is a fantastic addition to our coaching staff and brings with him a wealth of experience.
“He knows exactly what it takes to be successful at Rangers and understands the standards that are required every day.
“His knowledge, expertise and winning mentality will be a huge asset to the group, and I am looking forward to working closely with him as we continue our preparations for the season ahead.”
